Kinston, North Carolina
A precursor to the White Gold work was Flue, a series of earthcastings created by Thomas Sayre for the town of Kinston, North Carolina. Reminiscent of tobacco barns, the series is a landmark in what is rapidly becoming an eastern NC dining "destination" for serious foodies.
We met up Justin Howard, his brother Brian Howard, Paul Windham, and Johnathan R. Hughes during our visit. These are a handful of the men who helped bring Flue to life during the laborious process of digging, pouring, lifting, and securing these very large-scale sculptures in the ground.
